oh no, ichi, why are you here
Hi guys, it's Ichi again, but I'm not in here for another Breeding Centre update. Oh heaven's no, that's way too early for that. So, instead of that, I got something else. This is an ooc discussion about a new school opening and how it will be managed and teachers and all that stuff.
As some of you may know, Layton's a professor back in London and he loves his job with a passion. He loves learning, teaching, classes, all that, so he was pretty disappointed to see that there's only one school in all of Johto. Even worse, they only teach about Pokemon! Oh c'mon, where's all the important things like math, science, language, puzzles? How on Earth did the Nurse Joys here become, well, nurses without proper schooling? This cannot stand!!
So, that's why the Professor has finally decided to set up a school in Goldenrod City.
Now, the thing with this school, you don't have to be in Goldenrod to take classes. Many of the classes will be broadcasting over the network so people who aren't even in the city or the region can tune in and still learn. Also, there's really no age limit at all. Your character could be a young age of ten or all the way to fifty-five. Either way, they can attend classes there with other students of all different age. Along with that, there's more than just your usual subjects; there's other classes like critical thinking (where you just solve puzzles all day), singing, dancing, self-defense, all that. It's just a school of everything for everyone.
For those who want to teach
Anyone is pretty much welcome to do so. Your character just needs to prove that they're pretty knowledgeable in the field, but it's rather easy. However, there is one little catch; you don't get paid. This school relies on all volunteer work and while there might be a chance where teachers do get paid later down the road, there's no money being made in this. Layton has already used a good amount of his own to set up a building and clean it up, along with all this, so he can't offer much, except maybe a free meal now and then. He would greatly appreciate it if anyone can give up a bit of their free time to help teach or clean up the rooms after school or look after any children while their parents/guardians are learning or cook, whatever. Any and all help is completely welcome here.
Also, since there's probably a good amount of people that travel a lot and can't attend in person, the people who can't stay in Goldenrod for long, they can teach over the Pokegear and any students can tune in for their classes that way.
As for the students
Attendance isn't too big of a deal here. You can be here for one day and be completely absent the next two. They're not too fussy about that, due to the way life works in Johto; always moving, always struck with something. Besides, there's no credits or actual degree or whatnot coming out of these classes. The only thing that comes out from this is more knowledge, and maybe homework. Also, students don't have to pay a cent to attend classes here.
Donations are awesome since there's a lot of run this school, but not mandatory.
Classes
They will run seven days a week, meaning it'll be open on the weekends too, for those people who don't have time on the weekdays due to work. Each individual class will normally be held once a week or so, depending on whoever is teaching. If they want to teach this subject every single day, that's totally okay with them. The school will be open starting at 8am to 9pm, so that's thirteen whole hours of education.
Now, the school won't open right away. Due to plot that's going on in May, both the Rocket one and whatever this anniversary event is, it might open either in the middle of the month where things have calmed down or beginning of June. So, what do we do until then?
Well, I'd like to hear your thoughts and concerns and opinions on this! I have gotten mod approval so we don't have to wait on that, but I would really like to hear if you guys have any suggestions. I'm still trying to work out some details. I got most of them but if you guys got some great ideas, comment away!!
I'm going to probably make an actual schedule of what a normal week looks like at this school, with all the classes, times, and students, so this is where I need your help!
How many people here would have characters that would be interested in teaching, learning, or doing volunteer work? How many teaching in-person and over the network? How many students would actually attend? Which classes? In-person or over the network? In the comments, I have will one thread with the subject 'TEACHERS & CLASSES & VOLUNTEERS'. Here, people who have characters that will like to teach, they can comment with their character's name, what they'll teach, and when they'll teach. Something like this:
Hershel Layton
Critical Thinking - Advance ; Mondays ; 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Of course, you don't have to put the time in there, unless you really want to. Just the type of class and what day it'll be on is fine, but a time would be amazing. It will help me schedule this out better, but if you don't know, that's okay too!
Now, once a teacher has posted their ooc comment to that thread, people with interested characters can reply to that teacher's original comment of classes. Like so;
Herp Derp
Interested in taking Layton's critical thinking class!!
It'll be a lot easier when you see it in the thread below.
As for volunteers, comment under that exact same thread with the character's name and what they're volunteering for, along with what days they're available.
Le Derp
Looking after the kids ; Saturdays & Sundays
If your character will also be interested in donating something, anything from actual money to food to supplies, just leave it as a little comment at the end! It'll be greatly appreciated!
Besides that, you guys can comment below with suggestions, thoughts, questions, and whatnot. Get plotting in there or anything, go wild! I'd love to hear everything you say, so even if it's just a "good luck with everything", it's still a lot and lets me know that people are okay with this.
EDIT: I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING SOMETHING, I ALWAYS DO. But I think most of this will be handwaved, like the actual classes, but what do you guys think? I will most definitely be putting up a log on the first day the school opens so students can find their way to classes, meet with others, teachers chilling out, and all that. Are you guys interested in logs set up once a month or something for classes, or just handwave it?
Thanks for reading through this mess of a tl;dr and for any thoughts you may have! For sticking through the end, here are two gifs as a reward;

Holy Voltorbs, I know. They're not "wtf ichi" gifs anymore. I'd thought I would spare you just this once!!
And well, that's it! Please do comment if you have the time! If you need to contact me for anything, I'm on AIM at sociallinking and on Plurk at
