HMD | April 2012

EVALUATE MY BATTLING!

TRAINER TIPS:
→ This is encouraged, not mandatory. We will not penalize you for not using it.
→ Feel free to link your personal HMDs if you would like, just in case someone doesn't want to use the mass HMD post.
→ this is more for actual critique and discussion. Please don't just blindly praise a person or just call them horrible. If someone's doing a wonderful job, you can tell them, just tell them why, or even where they're showing off bonus perks. If someone's doing a not-so-wonderful job, tell them why, give them things to improve on if you can. Examples, links, things that can give them something to work on. Meaning, no bashing, flaming, or nasty behavior. Please keep it civil.
→ Anonymous is turned on! But note: anonymous is a privilege, not a right. If it's being abused to bash players, please be sure to let one of us know and we'll step in or freeze threads if necessary. If anonymous is abused too much, it will be turned off for the next HMD.
→ Don't take this all too personally! Remember that roleplay is a game, and crit is supposed to help, not make you feel horrible. No one is perfect, we've all got room to improve. Please keep that in mind.

I think you need to work on activity with Layton, particularly when it comes to your castmates. Due to being the protagonist in the series, he's a large presence in their lives, and you tend to not respond to them at all. This leaves them to do a lot of guesswork about exactly what their relationship with their mentor/friend/rival/whatever is actually supposed to be, and no CR to guide them either way. There's no IC reason why he wouldn't try to contact any of them at all, and yet there's been little to no threading going on; this is particularly bad with Emmy, who has closer CR with Descole than she does with Layton at this point.

Yes, I am aware of the activity problem. I have been trying to slowly raise it this half of the month as it has been almost non-existence since December with lj's mess and motivational loss for various ic and ooc reasons, not to mention rl. I have been focusing more on Souji as he's easier to tag and he has a Breeding Centre and Foster Home to take care of, two things that have been difficult to maintain over time, add new things, hire ic workers, etc etc. However, with a few new helpers oocly and icly as of today, it should be much easier to handle now and not take as much time. Therefore, I have planned as of tomorrow to have Layton catch up on things, tagging new entries.

I have actually been meaning to tag Emmy's latest post but haven't gotten around to it yet due to the fact that I've been trying to make a doctor's appointment all day and trying to brain a tag of advice in the middle of that Korean gibberish, I just couldn't come up with a proper response that wouldn't warrant concern about my English. So, I have the link copied to this month's link of my threads so I'm reminded to tag it tomorrow along with a few other posts thrown in there. I do apologize for this and there really isn't an ic reason why Layton isn't around. So thank you for taking the time to type out this crit for me and if I'm still not managing to meet up to exceptions, drop a quick note and I will take the measures needed.

Thank you.

You're very welcome.

It's understandable that you would spend time on Souji because of his IC responsibilities, I get that. But you haven't been taking care of the Breeding Centre/Foster Home either, though. The former hasn't been updated in weeks, and the latter takes quite some time for you to get back to others despite it not being nearly as busy. I understand that you lost a lot of castmates at once and it can be hard to soldier on through that, but that was weeks ago, and you haven't said anything OOCly about needing assistance with the Breeding Centre/Foster Home until yesterday, if I recall correctly. Likewise, a loss of motivation due to switching sites is also understandable, but the move happened in December. It's currently the latter half of April.

I won't claim to know your RL circumstances, but I do know that you haven't called a hiatus to deal with them, nor have you mentioned anything about needing help with any of this until incredibly recently; as such, I'm not exactly sure what to think other than possibly "y u no say these things, we would have helped you sooner if there was an issue." As it stands, however, your activity has been low to the point of character squatting with no explanation to castmates, and while I acknowledge that what you've given are initially understandable reasons, exactly how understandable they are diminish with time. Things like "loss of motivation from the move" really can't be used as excuses four months after the fact.

Yes, which is why I have been trying to step up the game for the Breeding Centre and Foster Home by doing a few html fix-ups first and adding new things to it before actually putting them in place/announcing it for the past few days. I would much rather to finish all of the html, type up that ooc post, see whatever else I need to do after looking at it a few days later, and ask for the help before going to plurk or elsewhere on updating everyone and everything so it's just one big update all together and not little ones. As seen with my usual updates on this thing, I might mention a plurk asking for opinions on a new design but I normally don't fully come out with everything until I know I got it all. As for asking help recently, this is because I'm somewhat close to finishing everything and I wouldn't want them to wait days for me to finish so they can start, and not wonder if I forgot about it all.

I'm not trying to make the "loss of motivation from the move" as an excuse for my whole absence, but rather just explaining as to why I wasn't there for December and January, therefore missing posts from that time frame. It's just something at the very start of the motivational loss and when that's kinda over, something else hits the motivation and it links together. I haven't issued a hiatus either due to thinking that I've pulled a few too many, but that might not have been a smart idea. I have asked a few times on perhaps having things to boost this motivation for a while now, but it hasn't returned until earlier this week to the point where I have started to do all this. I have only very briefly mentioned rl situations but haven't mentioned them much. They're just reoccurring things such as my jaw since January and would rather just keep them to my rambling plurks.

I'm not even sure if this really makes sense, so all together, I know that my activity has been very poor for the past months. The first cause, but not the overall and main cause, being the move. Plus with other things, just a huge motivational loss over the months which did probably turn into character squatting. This motivation hasn't returned until this week/last week, so I'm catching up on everything, mainly starting with Souji's things, that being everything typed on Notepad. Layton's on back-burner until about tomorrow but I have tried to get the castmate posts tagged, most recently being Luke's and Flora's (Emmy for the next day), so I'm hoping that activity will seem better from there. So yes, I do know your point and I don't want this to seem like I'm missing it, but it's just that it wasn't until last week when I've had the time combined with motivation that I have started to work on this.
