We interrupt your regularly scheduled Pokemon funtimes to bring you some mad science.
Hey guys! Remember this post Dist made back in January? Well, he's done all his data collection and experimentation, and he's created something pretty awesome and slightly horrifying. TIME TO SET IT LOOSE.
Rockets will get a chance to receive one of Dist's experiment Pokemon and test them out for him. There's something in this for heroes too, so don't worry!
As a recap of what this project of Dist's is:
Dist has been working with Pokemon evolution, specifically evolution through items or other special means like trading. He wants to answer one question: what would happen if evolution with an evolution-inducing item was forced onto a Pokemon that normally can't evolve with it? In order to answer this question, he built a machine that would record genetic changes in Pokemon that evolve with evolution-inducing items. With the help of some Rocket Grunts, he obtained a bunch of these Pokemon and recorded all different kinds of genes.
He then took that information and began splicing the genes of these Pokemon. He started with Pokemon who evolve with Metal Coats, because it would be really useful for some Pokemon to have defense as high as a lot of Steel types. So what he would do is take the gene in an Onix or Scyther that reacts to a Metal Coat, and put that gene into another random Pokemon. He then introduced a Metal Coat to the Pokemon to see what would happen. Many of the results were...not very pretty and some Pokemon didn't even react at all, so he had to tweak his splicing process several times.
But eventually, he succeeded! Oh boy did he succeed.
He discovered that introducing Metal Coats to a Pokemon with the implanted gene does not trigger evolution nor change their type, but it does cause some very interesting mutation. The result of all his hard work is several Pokemon with steel shells attached to their bodies. Like other Steel types, they now have vastly improved defense and can withstand a variety of types that they couldn't before the mutation. So for example, a Grass type with a metal shell can now withstand Poison type attacks like a Steel type would. These strange new Pokemon would likely throw off a lot of unsuspecting trainers!
But like all experiments, there's a downside that Dist isn't actually aware of yet, which is why he's having people test out the Pokemon: to look for potential drawbacks or special hidden advantages. They come with a huge, huge weakness. While normal Steel types' bodies comprise of steel itself, that's not the case with these mutated Pokemon. Their metal shell is actually attached to their bodies, meaning their real body is still underneath all that metal. A major weaknesses of Steel types is Fire, and that is especially the case with these Pokemon. If one of these Pokemon is hit with a Fire type attack, it will cause their metal shells to overheat and warp around the Pokemon's body before falling off altogether. It'll leave the Pokemon badly burned and terribly scarred (physically and probably mentally), and essentially out of commission for quite a while. They can be rehabilitated, but it'll take a lot of it to get them back in a good state.
With that said, now that Dist has a couple of these Pokemon made, he's ready to test them out. Because he's such a considerate and gracious guy, he's going to let fellow Rockets test them out for him. Battle with them to your heart's content! Figure out fun (and probably illegal) things to do with them! Find out their horrible weakness! Just be sure to record all your activities for Dist (along with me and the mods) to compile. You're also welcome to feature them in posts or threads and whatnot, because causing chaos with surprising Pokemon is fun! If you're going to thread out the discovery of their weakness though, please mark your thread appropriately for the body horror that comes with it.
Currently, Dist has five Pokemon available for testing (thank you mods for your lovely suggestions!). They are:
Jigglypuff: You thought this Pokemon's sleep-inducing singing was annoying? Well now it's even harder to take out with its steel shell. And the singing has probably shifted to nothing but Iron Maiden and Metallica's greatest hits, so. Enjoy! (THANKS ALEX.)
Beedrill: Beedrills are pretty scary on their own because they're giant death bees, but now they're metallic giant death bees. Well, it's a good thing there's only one for now.
Cryogonal: Again, cannibal snowflake. Sounds pretty horrible, right? Well now it's coated in steel with maximum Fire weakness. Ignoring the Fire weakness, I sure wouldn't want to end up in the jaws of this deathflake.
Metapod: HARDEN JUST GOT A HUNDRED TIMES MORE INTENSE BECAUSE IT'S LITERALLY STEEL NOW.
Ditto: Probably the most surprising mutation amongst this bunch, because while this Ditto lost the ability to manipulate its DNA to transform into other Pokemon, it's now a blob of liquid metal that can morph into different shapes, like a protective wall for example. In order to compensate for the fact that it can't use normal moves, it can actually attack with its own body and slice things or slam onto things. It's essentially this thing. There's a lot of potential creativity to implement here.
...some are clearly more interesting than others but look, Dist didn't get to choose which Pokemon reacted more positively to the mutations than others.
So! If you'd like for your character to receive a mutated metal Pokemon from Dist, please comment to this post with your character and which Pokemon you'd like them to get. This is going to be done RNG style, so pick at maximum 2 Pokemon you would like your character to get. They can only win one of them though, but this will improve your chances of getting something. For the Ditto, your character is going to need to convince Dist that they'll do great things with it because it has a lot of potential and he doesn't want to see it wasted. If you think your character is persuasive enough, go ahead and sign up!

Sign ups will close at the end of Wednesday, May 14th (so 11:59PM EST). I will then roll RNG and alert the players who won by replying to their sign up comment. Once winners are chosen, I will put up an IC post where Dist will ask for volunteers and your character will ICly receive their Pokemon. From there, they can go out and have fun with their new mutant friends. Make Dist proud, people.
For you hero types: I'm willing to let the PGC or whoever else capture one of these Pokemon to figure out what the hell they are. Please let me know if that happens though because I and the mods want to keep track of them, and make sure the player of the character with the mutated Pokemon in their possession is okay with it being taken as well. You're also welcome to try to figure out who could be behind the creation of these Pokemon. There have been some hints dropped, after all. I'm open for plotting out what happens from there because Dist is kind of holed up in the Goldenrod base most of the time.
This plot is mod approved! Thanks mods for helping me put this project together!
Thank you for reading, and happy mad science! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments.
